Brrrrrrrrrr! Snow and ice turn Spain into winter wonderland
Most of Spain still faced freezing temperatures on Thursday, but weather officials predict the weekend will bring some relief.
Spanish weather service AEMET said on Thursday that there would be low levels of snowfall in the central and northern parts of the Iberian peninsula, putting 24 provinces on alert.
“Throughout the peninsula today, there currently are or will be, areas of snow and intense gusts of wind,” AEMET wrote on Twitter.

The service also warned of heavy rainfall in the Canary Islands.
The weather service did give some hope for a warmer weekend, writing that "in general, the temperatures will increase".
But the sub-zero temperatures have their up side with social media photographers sharing stunning photos of a white-washed Spain.

One small town in León went so far as to call scenes of snow piling up on top of roofs and cars "paradise".
"It’s so good that the paradise stayed with us in the afternoon," tweeted the official account of the village of Llánaves de la Reina

The flurries of snow hasn't been all fun for everyone this week, though. On Sunday night, dozens of drivers were stuck on roadways in Galicia due to unexpected snowfall and many were forced to abandon their cars.
