Bruce Springsteen gig confirmed in Sweden
US rock legend Bruce Springsteen is heading to Sweden this summer as he brings his much-anticipated 'The River Tour' to Europe.
Springsteen and his E Street Band are set to perform in Gothenburg at the Ullevi arena on June 25th, the Danish capital's Parken arena on June 22nd and Ullevål in Oslo, Norway, on June 29th.
“We look forward to experiencing Bruce Springsteen and his E Street Band when they again occupy Ullevi in Gothenburg for another classic concert that will go down in history. See you there!” said the organizers, LiveNation, in a press statement announcing the Nordic gigs on Wednesday.
The rocker launched his The River Tour, named in honour of the 35-year-anniversary of his legendary 'The River' album, in the US in Pittsburgh a few weeks ago, his first tour in two years.
Last time Springsteen came to Sweden he played a series of three sold-out gigs at Friends Arena in Stockholm three years ago. A year earlier he visited Oslo to pay tribute to victims and survivors at a memorial concert held on the anniversary of Norway's Utoya massacre.
Tickets will be available from 9am on February 25th.
The River was Springsteen's fifth studio album, originally released on October 17th 1980. Including famous hits such as 'Hungry Heart', 'Independence Day' and 'The Ties That Bind', it has been ranked as the 253rd greatest album of all time by Rolling Stone magazine.
He is hugely popular in the Nordics, and the love goes both ways. Interviewed back in 2012 he said that he wanted the US to move closer to a Swedish-style welfare system and referred to the Swedes as “my people”.
Springsteen is not the only big name set to hit Sweden this year. Beyonce announced earlier in February that she will come to Stockholm on July 26th and Justin Bieber is showing up for a gig in September.
