We've picked out six of the top events most likely to get you into the Christmas spirit this December, alongside our interactive calendar of everything else going on in Sweden this week.

1. Stockholm Santa Run

Here's to fund-racing for a good Clause! What do you get if you take thousands of people dressed up as Father Christmas and make them jog through the Swedish capital in mid-December? The Stockholm Santa Run. Tickets for taking part in the three-kilometre charity race are already sold out, but there's no reason why you shouldn't show up to cheer the Santas. Organizations benefiting from the fundraising event include the Red Cross, Save the Children and Aktivisfonden for youngsters with special needs.

When: December 13th, 10.45am

2. Lucia concert

Come December 13th you will have a plethora of Lucia concerts to choose from across the country when the secular Swedes gather to celebrate their favourite Italian Catholic saint. But if you want a taste of what to expect, head to Hedvig Eleonora Church in Stockholm on Friday for an atmospheric rendition of Sweden's most beloved Lucia songs. Performance by the talented teens in Adolf Fredrik's Girls' Choir. Just make sure you read this guide to the six things not to tell a Swede on Lucia first.

3. Affordable Art Fair Stockholm

If you're looking for a Christmas present for someone (or for yourself), why not try the Affordable Art Fair Christmas pop-up exhibition in Stockholm. Based on the concept originally launched in London in 1999, the Affordable Art Fair aims to sell art to reasonable prices. The artworks displayed at the event will be on sale from 500-5,000 kronor.

When: December 11th, 10am-7pm; December 12th, 11am-6pm

Where: HTL Kungsgatan 53, Stockholm

4. Sofia Karlsson and Martin Hederos

Swedish folk singer-songwriter Sofia Karlsson has joined forces with former rock band Soundtrack Of Our Lives member Martin Hederos for an acoustic Christmas tour through Sweden. Together they are set to wow audiences with everything from their own new songs to traditional holiday classics in Swedish and English.

When/where: They will be in Stockholm, Östersund, Järna, Malmö, Gothenburg and Umeå in the coming week

Tickets: Around 200-300 kronor

5. Crazy Christmas Cabaret

Malmö's major casino is putting on a dazzling, glitzy, glamourous Christmas show with song and dance this Saturday. According to organizers, it's set to be a mix of Moulin Rouge, The Great Gatsby, Prince, Lady Gaga, Madonna and Berlin – and traditional Swedish Christmas food, of course.

When: December 12th, 6.30pm

Where: Casino Cosmopol, Malmö

Tickets: 650 kronor

6. A Christmas Carol

What would Christmas be without Charles Dickens' famous tale about the grumpy Ebenezer Scrooge? The play is being performed in English by an all-British ensemble at Stockholm's Maxim Theatre throughout December. The show includes some of your favourite holiday songs, including 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen', 'Ding Dong Merrily On High' and 'We Wish You A Merry Christmas'.

Where: Maximteatern, Stockholm

Tickets: From 435 kronor
