Five tasty events for foodies in Sweden
As the nights get longer and colder, we could all do with some comfort food. Here are our top picks for events in the food world this week, alongside our regular entertainment listings.
If you're going to be hosting family or friends over the holiday season and want to impress by rustling up some Swedish dishes, here's an opportunity to stock up. Food producers from the Uppsala area will be selling fresh and ethical produce so treat yourself to regional delicacies including breads, cheeses, meats and sweet treats at Uppsala's Christmas Farmers' Market.
When: Friday, December 4th, 2pm-6pm
Where: Resecentrum, Uppsala

Several of the country's top chefs are involved in a new foodie hub, Theatre, which aims to combine high quality with quick service and fair prices and will see nine different kitchens and a patisserie open up in the Ringen Centre in the hipster district of Södermalm. Restaurants themed around Southern French cuisine, Asian street food and Sweden's first completely organic and vegan fast food restaurant will be among the offerings in the venue, which will seat 250 and opens this Saturday.

3. Nattamat
Anton Bjuhr and Jacob Holmström from Stockholm will be this week's guest chefs at one of the coolest food spots in Gothenburg, rustling up their favourite late night snacks as part of Björns Bar’s new late night food concept. There will be a discount on the house beer from midnight onwards, and the previous Nattamat event saw queues on the street, so arrive early. Join the Facebook event here.

4. Sigtuna Christmas Market
There are Christmas markets across Sweden this month, but for a truly memorable experience, it’s worth making the trip to the country’s oldest town to indulge in some traditional festive delicacies, which include local hand made lamb sausage, elk and reindeer meat jam, salmon, pastries, lots of candy and roasted almonds - and not forgetting the traditional pepparkakor (gingerbread) and glögg (mulled wine).
When: Sunday, December 6th, 11am-4pm
Where: Stora gatan, Sigtuna
Tickets: Free admission (and free parking)
It’s not a Swedish Christmas without sampling a Christmas smorgasbord, and although many restaurants will have their own version on offer, you can make your Julbord experience extra special by choosing an option with unique surroundings. In Stockholm, boat company Strömma offers buffets on its winter river cruises with lunch and dinner options. You'll find everything from pickled herring to reindeer hash, and plenty of dessert options too as you dine in the renovated old ships with view of the wintery archipelago.
