Bacon back in Swedish hotels after huge uproar
Petter Stordalen, the owner of the Nordic Choice Hotel Group, has performed a swift U-turn by re-introducing bacon at the chain's Swedish hotels, just a week after banning processed meat.
Camilla Bergman, brand director for the group’s Comfort chain in Sweden, said in a statement that Comfort “had listened to the response of guests and was restoring bacon and sausages to the breakfast buffet menu.”
“We at Comfort Hotels view ourselves as the small hotel rebel who wants to challenge the traditional,” Bergman continued. “The response from guests shows that we very much did just that. Though many praised us for the measure, the visitors' feedback clearly emphasized that they still wanted bacon. Therefore we are bringing back the bacon.”

Stordalen's company's new green, healthy menu had been introduced across Scandinavia, including in a number of Swedish hotels.
The menu, which had been developed in collaboration with Stordalen’s environmental campaigner wife, Dr Gunhild Stordalen, offered healthy, plant-based alternatives to the greasy breakfasts regularly served up to business travellers.
According to Sweden’s Västerbottens Kuriren newspaper, the change did not go down well with some travellers to the Hotell Winn in the northern city of Umeå.
“There are mixed reactions,” said Ebba Kohl, who runs the hotel’s restaurant.
“Some are upset and some understanding.”
The Nordic Choice Hotel chain has previously hit the headlines for banning pornography in its hotel rooms.
Petter Stordalen has a reputation for enjoying being the centre of attention. In July he hit the headlines after falling off a jetski as he arrived to open a new luxury hotel in Malmö.
The son of a grocer, he owns more than 170 hotels through his company Nordic Choice Hotels and employs more than 9,200 people.
