Originally built in the art nouveau “grand château” style in 1906, the hotel is classed among Switzerland’s historic monuments, owner Katara Hospitality said in a news release on Tuesday, the ATS news agency reported.

The Qatar-based hotel company said work on the hotel has not completely finished with a spa, featuring indoor and outdoor pools, and Sky Lounge in the hotel set to open in early 2016.

With 196 rooms and suites, the hotel also features a large ballroom, brasserie, vegetarian restaurant, lounge bar, “cigar lounge” and gardens spread over a 10,000 square metres.

A new penthouse “Sky Terrace” built over a contemporary garden wing of the hotel offers panoramic views over the city of Lausanne, Lake Geneva and the French Alps to the south.

Katara, which operates or is developing a total of 35 hotels, bought the heritage building in 2007 and has been busy since returning it to its former glory.

The hotel is offering special deals from now until the end of the year, with rooms with lake-view rooms starting at 382.50 francs a night, while executive suites start at 960 francs a night.

Elsewhere in Switzerland Katara, which says it plans to operate 60 hotels by 2026, owns the Hotel Schweizerhof, which was renovated in 2011, and is currently renovating the Bürgenstock Resort in the canton of Nidwalden on an alpine cliff overlooking Lake Lucerne.

The Nidwalden resort, which dates from 1873, is set to reopen in 2017.
