Whether you're into international cinema, music or exhibitions, there's something for you in Sweden this week. We've picked out our favourite events alongside The Local's regular interactive calendar.

1. Stockholm Film Festival

Stockholm's annual film festival (in its 26th year) is under way, much to the delight of movie buffs in Sweden. Now in its 26th year, the 12-day festival will see movies from all corners of the world screened in various cinemas in the capital. Chinese activist artist Ai Weiwei is set to make an appearance, handing out one of the festival's most prestigious awards.

2. Nordic Folk Music Night

If you're in western Sweden this week, why not swing by Gothenburg for a night of Nordic folk music. Three Scandinavian groups – Suo, Ulvsand & Hjertland and Secret Carpet Club – are set to bring you tunes from Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark. Instruments include the key harp, violin, bouzouki, flutes, kantele and the autoharp. Head along to the evening at Klubb Ankaret in Gothenburg to find out what they all are.

3. Moving Image Art Across The Arab World

Malmö Konsthall, one of Europe's largest exhibition centres for contemporary art, is running an exhibition displaying films in Arabic by a group of young, international artists. Exploring on the differences between artists in the Middle East and Northern Africa, it highlights the difficulties of classifying the 'Arab World' as a homogeneous entity.

4. Blues Night with Samantha Fish and Laurence Jones

Blues musicians Samantha Fish and Laurence Jones are set to get northern Sweden stomping and cheering as they hit the right notes at a groovy gig in Umeå this weekend. Fish from Kansas City swept into first place on the US Billboard's blues list with her latest album 'Wild Heart' and Jones, from Liverpool, was voted best British blues newcomer in 2014.

When: November 14th, 8pm

Where: Droskan, Storgatan 60, Umeå

Tickets: 300 kronor at the door (from 240 kronor if you pre-book)
