Murderer caught by Swiss border guards
Border guards in the canton of Ticino arrested a man wanted by Interpol for murder during a routine check on Wednesday night.
Customs officers stopped a 36-year-old Turkish national at the Swiss-Italia border at Chiasso Brogeda, in Ticino, at around 8.30pm on Wednesday, according to daily newspaper 20 Minuti.
On verifying his identity as part of a routine check, border guards realized the man was wanted for murder by authorities in Ankara, Turkey, which had issued an Interpol arrest warrant.
After questioning by Ticino police, the man was taken into custody.
He is due to serve a seven and a half year jail term.
