A light aircraft was forced to land on Highway 27 outside Borås at lunchtime. No one was harmed.

The plane came down on the road in Borås municipality at around 12.30pm and both the police and emergency services were called to the scene.

It is still unclear why the pilot was forced to make an emergency landing.

“I do not know if there is a breakdown or so, but everything is fine now,” said Björn Christoffersson, spokesman for the emergency services of Södra Älvsborg.

One witness was on his way to the amusement park High Chaparral in Småland with some friends when they suddenly saw the aircraft.

“We were shocked, it's not every day you see a plane at the side of the road,” he told Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.

Fortunately no one was hurt and the airplane was driven into a parking area at the side of the road.

“There was no damage to either the road or plane. They had moved the plane off the road when we arrived so we have not had to do anything,” said Christoffersson.

The pilot told Radio P4 that there were fields near the road where he planned to make an emergency landing, but he chose to come down on the road because there are a lot of trees in the fields.

“It felt like we ran out of gas. But I checked the gasoline before the start and we had a reserve so right at this moment I can not say what caused it.”
