Stunning Swiss chateau goes under hammer
An 18th century chateau with commanding views of Lake Geneva is up for sale and for an asking price said to be somewhere in the region of 50 million francs it could be on the market for a while.
Hauteville Manor, an amazing residence in the hills above Vevey, has been in the same family for 11 generations, or since it was built in the 1760s.
But the death of Baroness Edith Grand d'Hauteville will see the 30-room chateau on a 27-hectare site go up for sale.
Also included with the house are extensive vineyards, 18th century fountains and a servants' residence.
The price is being kept secret but is thought to be around the 50-million franc mark.
If that seems a little on the steep side, there’s still a chance to take part in auctions on September 11th and 12th which will see most of the chateau’s contents sold off.

“These types of auctions are rare,” Bernard Piguet with the Geneva auction house l'Hôtel des Ventes de Genève told reporters.
“None of the objects for sale have been moved, they are all connected to the history of the family, and it’s exceptional to find a residence containing objects accumulated over two and half centuries,” he said.
While several of the more prized items have already been sold off in London, buyers can still pick up anything from a set of four nineteenth century fencing foils to an Art Deco watch and a vast array of Middle Eastern rugs.
The items will be on display at the manor from Friday September 4th to Sunday September 6th, with opening hours from noon to 7pm.
