While the Copenhagen Fashion Week comes to an end on Friday, there are still a lot of weekend activities as part of the Copenhagen Fashion Festival.

Copenhagen Fashion Week is a big deal in the world of fashion, as the Danish capital hosts the most important fashion event in the Nordic countries. But along with the high-profile events, there’s a whole agenda for those with a more feet-on-the-ground fashion sense.

Copenhagen Fashion Festival is making fashion accessible for everyone, and has been boosting different events all around the city to fashion lovers this week. Beauty tutorials, fashion talks, exhibitions and events like the Garden Party allows average people to get involved in the fashion atmosphere.

Kronprinsensgade, one of the most central streets of Copenhagen, was the location of the Garden Party on Thursday, organized as an activity of the Fashion Festival. The entire street was covered in turf so people could relax and have a beer or just go shopping in the stores nearby. The laid-back vibe is what Fashion Festival is about, opening fashion up to the masses and letting all kinds of people take part in it.

Although the official programme of the SS16 Fashion Week edition ends on Friday, there are plenty of things happening throughout the weekend for everybody can join, no matter how ‘trendy’ you are. Here are some of them:

The Fashion Exchange is one of the most interesting events. The clothing trade will take place in the City Hall Square of Copenhagen on Saturday from 11am to 4pm. There’s only one prerequisite for joining in: Bring your old clothes.

"We need to be conscious of the fact that we don't use nearly 30 percent of the clothing we own", Cecilie Thorsmark, the head of press for Copenhagen Fashion Week, told The Local. "Swapping is also a way of thinking in a more sustainable way.'

The process is easy. You bring at least one old piece of clothing, in good condition, and you get a ticket to enter the clothing market. Then you can take home any piece of clothing you want.

"This will be the fourth year of the initiative and we expect more than 2,000 people to attend," Thorsmark said.

The swap market idea promotes sustainable consumption and all excess clothing will be donated to Asylum Centre Sandholm.

But if you prefer to keep your old clothes, there are other interesting activities as well.
