Five unmissable music festivals in Sweden
The festival season is upon us. Whether you're into heavy metal or folk music, there's something for you. Check out The Local's interactive calendar to find out what else is on offer in Sweden this week.
Stockholm Folk Festival, 7th-8th August
Now in its fourth year, the Stockholm Folk Festival at Hässelby Castle will see musicians from as far afield as Algeria and the US take centre stage in the Swedish capital.
Highlights include Swedish duo Hazelius Hedin, internationally acclaimed Swedish Jazz singer Rigmor Gustafsson, Algerian singer Karima Nayt, as well as guest singer and Swedish star Kristin Amparo.
Festival goers will also get the chance to take a variety of courses and workshops. You’re also welcome to bring your own instruments and make some music of your own.

Getaway Festival, Gävle, 6th-8th August
Metal fans from all over Sweden and beyond will flock to the Getaway Rock festival this week.
Over three days, bands will mix sounds from 1970s classic rock to gothic dark metal.
The festival will feature acts such as old-school rockers Status Quo and power metal bands Hammerfall and the American rocker Rob Zombie.

Stockholm Culture Festival, 11th-16th August
This vibrant outdoor festival in central Stockholm is a melting pot of different cultures. The theme of this year’s culture festival is the United Kingdom but as always it will feature performers and guests from all around the globe.
Highlights include the band Ibibio Sound Machine, described as a clash of African and electronic music and Swedish crooner Magnus Carlsson and the Northern Soul Orchestra.
But it’s not just about music. The festival will also feature various art installations, including Dominoes, which will see 7,000 dominoes being lined up and toppled through the city.

Gothenburg Culture Festival, 11th-16th August
Who said Stockholm was Sweden’s culture capital? Gothenburg will also be throwing its own culture festival this year.
Spreading over six days, the festival includes performances from Lebanese superstar Elissa and the Swedish-Gambian singer Seinabo Sey.
Gröna Lund, Stockholm, August
Sweden's most famous amusement park puts on a whole set of gigs every summer, including some big names.
This week it will play host to American punk rock band Offspring on the 11th and Swedish pop and R&B singer Molly Sandén on the 12th.
Admission is 220 kronor between 6pm and 8:30pm or 240 kronor for a Gröna Kortet season ticket, which gives you free admission to all concerts at the theme park for the rest of the season.
