Sweden's future queen, Crown Princess Victoria, turned 38 on Tuesday, with crowds braving downpours on Öland island to join her celebrations.

As is traditional, Sweden's royal family is spending the summer at the King's countryside residence, Solliden, on the island of Öland and on Tuesday morning Crown Princess Victoria was snapped outside the palace with her husband Prince Daniel, their daughter Princess Estelle (who turned three earlier this year) and her mother Queen Silvia.

In the afternoon, Victoria headed out into Solliden's beautiful gardens to greet members of the public, with Daniel on hand to shelter her from the rain with his umbrella.

Little Estelle spent the day demonstrating that she is becoming skilled at waving like a true royal.

She even managed to stay smiling during the damp weather.

Öland is one of the most popular locations in Sweden for summer vacations. Joined to the Swedish mainland from the city of Kalmar in the south of the country by a 6km bridge, it boasts long sandy beaches and is usually one of the sunniest spots in the country. The Crown Princess has spent several wet birthdays there in recent years but always attracts a good turnout of onlookers, and 2015 was no exception.

While it is thought that Sweden's youngest royal, Prince Nicolas, is spending some of the summer on Öland with his parents Princess Madeleine and her husband Chris O'Neill, the baby boy was absent from the day's public celebrations.

But according to Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet, Kay Wiestål, the official organizer of Victoria Day on Öland, said that Chris O'Neill has been confirmed as a guest at Princess Victoria's evening celebration, with newlyweds Prince Carl Philip and Sofia Hellqvist also scheduled to make an appearance, days after they were spotted at Falkenberg race track in west Sweden.
