Warm weather shone on most of Sweden on Friday, with much of the country also set to enjoy a dry and sunny weekend. But the bikini weather was set to fade by Monday.

Sweden's capital was basking in sunshine on Friday, with much of the south and centre of the country also baking in temperatures of around 25C.

"It is not impossible that we will reach up to 27 degrees," Per Holmberg, a meteorologist at the weather institute Foreca told Sweden's Metro newspaper.

"I think it will be the hottest day so far this year in southern Sweden," he added.
On Saturday, temperatures were expected to remain between 20 and 25C south of Stockholm, ideal weather for the upcoming royal wedding. Prince Carl Philip is set to walk down the aisle with his former reality TV star fiancée Sofia Hellqvist at 4.30pm.

The mini June heatwave follows the wettest and coldest May in decades in much of Sweden.

Last month, temperatures edged above 20C on just three days, with Kristianstad in Skåne recording the country's high of 21.4C, its lowest peak in May since 1962.

On Friday, farmers even warned that the recent run of bad weather could lead to a strawberry shortage at next week's Midsummer celebrations, describing the recent chilly summer climate as a “disaster” for both Swedish people and for strawberry growers.

Northern Sweden's weather was set to remain unsettled over the weekend, with Jämtland and Västernorrland expected to stay cloudy on Friday and Saturday with temperatures of around 10C.

Gothenburg and parts of west Sweden could experience showers on Saturday and Sunday, forecasters warned.

By Monday, the bulk of the country was expected to become cooler, with Foreca predicting temperatures of less than 15C across Sweden.

Sweden's blast of heat comes as other parts of Europe are experiencing unseasonably wet weather. Hail, storms and flash floods swept into Spain earlier this week, while France was preparing itself for violent storms on Friday.

Italy however has been sizzling in temperatures of up to 34C in recent days.
