National Police employee arrested for bribery

Thirteen public employees, including one worker at the Danish National Police (Rigspolitiet) were arrested for alleged bribery on Tuesday, South Zealand and Lolland-Falster Police said.
Responding to the suspicions of Zealand Region (Region Sjælland) employees, police are investigating allegations that public employees received bribes from private contractors in exchange for IT contracts with the region.
On Tuesday, police ransacked 17 addresses on Tuesday including a Danish National Police office and Zealand Region locales and confiscated IT equipment that may contain evidence of the alleged bribes.
A total of 13 people were arrested.
Lene Frank, the head of South Zealand and Lolland-Falster Police, said that her unit was treating the bribery allegations as a “very high priority” case.
“As known, cases involving bribes are rare in Denmark. Corruption and bribery are unacceptable and that is also why police are taking this current case very seriously,” Frank said in a statement.
The 13 arrestees were due to make a preliminary court appearance at 2pm on Tuesday in Nykøbing.
The arrests come just days after Denmark was declared the world's least corrupt country in a study from the World Justice Project.
