What's on in Sweden: June 4th - 11th
Come rain or shine, the Swedish summer is officially open for business. We've picked out our favourite events this week, including National Day celebrations and one of Scandinavia's biggest food festivals.
Much as we love the Swedish summer, let's be honest, it's been a bit of a disappointment so far. But after the wettest May in five decades, the people of Malmö in southern Sweden have decided to take matters into their own hands and kick-start summer to make June a month to remember.
On Saturday, June 6th, the Moriska Paviljongen nightclub in Malmö's trendy Möllevången area will play host to the city's legendary 'Sommarfesten' (literally 'The Summer Party'), which will see Swedish artists Maxida Märak and Rebstar play all the best hits to pump up that summer feeling. The party kicks off at 10pm.

June 6th is also when Sweden celebrates its National Day. In typical Swedish fashion, it is a modest and 'lagom' day, a far cry from its Norwegian neighbours' joyful and boisterous festivities on May 17th or the annual celebrations in the United States on July 4th.
You can take part in the celebrations wherever you are, but the main event is likely to be the party at Stockholm's biggest outdoor museum Skansen. Activities such as face painting and a make-your-own-Swedish-flag workshop will take place throughout the day, but the big show starts at 6.15pm when a long line of famous Swedish artists (including Ola Salo and Maia Hirasawa) will take the stage.
If you're not bothered enough to make it to Stockholm to get a glimpse of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, who will be in the audience, you can watch the show on SVT1 from 8pm.

Here's the number (hole-in) one event for golf fans: the four-day Nordea Masters gets under way in southern Sweden on Thursday, June 4th. Formerly known as the Scandinavian Masters, it is one of the most prestigious competitions on the PGA European Tour and is second only to the British Open in terms of audience numbers.
Even if golf is not your cup of tee, the tough competition is likely to provide cause for excitement. Sweden's own world number four, Henrik Stenson, has been mentioned as one of the favourites among Thailand's defending champion Thongchai Jaidee and Ireland's Eddie Pepperell. A golfing event well above par, in other words.

A gastronomical smorgasbord (although since we're in Sweden, we should probably call it 'smörgåsbord') of culinary delicacies will hit Stockholm's Kungsträdgården park from June 4th – June 7th. Food trucks, cook-along shows and much more on the menu at Sweden's largest food festival, 'Smaka på Stockholm' ('Taste of Stockholm'). New for this year is a pop-up restaurant, where you can try out the signature dishes by some of Sweden's top chefs for just 75 kronor.
