What's topping the German charts in June
In the mood for some high-quality German pop music? Then look no further. Here is the lowdown on five chart –topping tunes making waves in Germany this June.
Felix Jaehn – Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better) ft. Jasmine
Topping the German charts is a rework of the 80s pop classic by Rufus and Chaka Khan, which is a great feel-good tune. The delicate vocals of singer Jasmine Thompson, who covered the song a few years ago, may even be better than the original. Hamburg producer Felix Jaehn has come in, sped it up, added a few poppy, house-influenced piano chords, and taken all the credit. The bouncy synths and catchy chorus will make this a big hit this summer.
Sarah Connor – Wie schön du bist
This effort follows the tried and tested formula of soppy pop ballad with uplifting chorus, but is surprisingly not that bad. The title, which translates as "how beautiful you are" may be awful, but the melody is actually quite infectious. This is how unimaginative, cheesy pop music should be done.
Robin Schulz – Headlights (ft. Ilsey)
Coming in at eight behind the likes of Jason Derulo and Sweden's Eurovision winning entry, this song feels like it has been made for summer. Last year producer Robin Schulz had a huge hit with a song featuring Jasmine Thompson, who seems to be hot property among German producers, and it feels like he has used the same recipe: think four-to-the-floor beat, mediocre female vocals and a breezy, laid back vibe.
Philipp Dittberner and Marv – Wolke 4
At number 13 in the German charts is a song that is pretty difficult to dislike. Perfectly pleasant without really doing anything particularly interesting, this track is low key, poppy house with delightful guitar parts thrown into the the mix. Once again a producer has taken a nice song from a singer-songwriter, plonked a house beat on it, and will probably make lots of money this summer.
Lena – Traffic Lights
If you were a fan of Germany's 2010 Eurovision winning entry then this will tickle your fancy. Lena is back with her annoying English accent and general blandness. With her latest release she really brings her lyrical genius to the party. "How long will it take? Have I got time for a shower?" and "I hope the traffic lights don’t change, keeping me away from you" were particular highlights. This truly is a master class in averageness.
