The Local's music guru, Paul Connolly, has a bumper selection of great Swedish songs to help you prepare for midsummer madness.

1. Sharks - Rebel

You can tell summer is (finally) on its way - Swedish record labels are unleashing a torrent of summery pop and much of it will be featured here. First up are Sharks. Rebel is their second single. It'll probably be their first hit.

2. Baron Bane - Fire Play

Baron Bane have been around for more than a decade, but have only released two albums. Their third is imminent. This majestic slab of electro-prog-rock brings to mind Propaganda, Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead.

3. Awa - Obvious

I'm not sure how Sweden keeps churning out great soul music but I'm glad it does. Following in the footsteps of Seinabo Sey, Mapei and Sabina Ddumba, Awa is ANOTHER great Swedish soul singer.

4. Tove Styrke - Number One

Northern Swede Styrke is enjoying a modicum of success Stateside. With songs as good as Number One it's not hard to hear why.

5. Pyco - Revolution

I'm not sure the world is ready for the Swedish Spice Girls but it may not get a choice in the matter. This is breezy, confident pop of the highest order.

6. ADL - Forever Börjar Här ft. Joakim Berg

Adam Baptiste has recruited Kent's Joakim Berg to provide vocals on this gorgeous, sun-dappled burst of Swedish hip-hop.

7. Dotter - Dive

Toy pianos, hollering and chunky but sinuous modern pop - welcome to Dotter's world.

8. Otto Knows - Next To Me

Måns Zelmerlöw's Eurovision triumph emphasised Sweden's status as globe-straddling dance-pop powerhouse. Here's a prime example of the genre.

9. Galantis - Peanut Butter Jelly

And here's another...

10. Julia Adams - Som Jag

Adams's music is exquisitely, delicately mournful. And utterly beautiful.

11. For BDK - My Tears

Marcus Borrman and Adele Kosman's new single sounds like Massive Attack's Teardrop being reworked by Moloko.

12. Death Team - Dolphin Style

This cheeky, ludicrously catchy song simply has to be a huge hit.

13. Elliphant - Love Me Badder

Major success has somehow eluded Elliphant so far. But we're not giving up on her. This is as terrific as ever.

Listen to the songs on Spotify or watch the videos on YouTube.
