Swedish 'whore' murder plotter faces charges

A 20-year-old man alleged to have written notes about his plans to kill a "whore", an "unfriendly" person and an "immigrant child" has been charged with three counts of conspiring to murder in a gruesome case that is gripping the Swedish media.
The suspect, who looks set to a face trial in the coming months, was arrested two weeks ago after his blue shoulder bag was discovered in the southern city of Kalmar, containing an Ikea knife, two beers and handwritten plans to carry out at least three killings in Sweden. "The reason he’s being prosecuted is that people close to him had found a knife and several notes in his bag," chief prosecutor Kjell Janneson told The Local on Thursday. "The notes were descriptions of different types of people he was going to murder and how he was going to kill them," he added. "We searched for him for several days and after four or five days we got him, armed with a new knife." The handwritten scribbles listed three very different targets, a "hora" (the Swedish word for whore), an "oförskämd/otrevlig" which translates as an unfriendly type and an "invandrarbarn/ungdom”, an immigrant child or young person. The prosecutor said that the suspect's computer had also been searched, and the man was discovered to have looked up information about Norwegian mass killer Anders Behring Breivik and American serial murderer Ted Bundy. Reflecting on the 20-year-old's mental health, he explained that the young man's family had been concerned about his state of mind for at least six months and had "urged him to seek help, but he didn’t". According to Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet, the suspect eventually turned himself in after returning to a relative's house following his period on the run. The paper reports that after eating two toasted cheese sandwiches and drinking some water, he was taken to a police station by his father. Janneson told the newspaper that he was pushing for the suspect to undergo a psychiatric examination ahead of any potential future trial.
