Denmark’s labour market had more active workers in February than in any other month since September 2009, new figures from Statistics Denmark showed.

Employment levels reached their highest point in more than four years in February, Statistics Denmark reported on Tuesday

Monthly job totals increased by 4,100 in February, bringing Denmark’s total work force up to 2,594,200 wage earners.

Economy Minister Morten Østergaard said he wanted to see that number hit three million, but pointed out that February continued an upward trend in employment figures in effect since April 2013.

“I’m pleased that the progress in employment, which has risen for 22 months in a row, is broadly based in the private sector in virtually all industries,” he said in a press release.

While private sector jobs increased by 4,100 from January to February, the public sector shrunk by some 500 positions.

The construction industry experienced the largest one-month increase, with 0.9 percent growth.
