Several Swedish stars will be fighting it out at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards later this spring. Singer-songwriter Tove Lo, hit DJ Avicii and producer Max Martin are among those nominated for gongs at the gala in Las Vegas.

Charts organizer and music industry trade publication Billboard announced the nominees for their annual flagship event on Tuesday.

Sweden's favourite Tove Lo, who recently scored several awards at Sweden's music prize ceremony, 'Grammisgalan', is nominated in the category for top streaming song with her global smash hit 'Habits (Stay High)', facing competition from Sam Smith ('Stay With Me'), John Legend ('All of Me'), Hozier ('Take Me to Church') and Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX ('Fancy').

The young Swedish star shot to fame in 2014, beginning the year playing in tiny venues and ending it supporting Katy Perry on her world tour. Her debut album, 'Queen of the Clouds', has enjoyed chart success both in the US and the UK.

Sweden's DJ hit wonder Avicii is back at the Billboard Gala, hoping to outperform last year's success when his 'Wake Me Up' took home the prize for best dance/electronic song. His record 'True' is nominated for best album of the year and he is pegged as one of the favourites to win in the top dance/electronic artist category.

Swedish producer Max Martin also has the chance to score a slice of Billboard glory. His and Shellback's 'Shake it off' for Taylor Swift – who is also the artist to receive the most nominations this year at a grand total of 14 – is nominated in several categories.

Rapper Ludacris and model Chrissy Teigen are set to host the gala, which takes place in Las Vegas on May 17th.
