Queen of Denmark turns 75, party kicks off
Queen Margrethe II turns 75 next week, but celebrations already kicked off in Aarhus on Wednesday, with American singer Josh Groban featured on a list of entertainers.
There is still another week before Queen Margrethe II turns 75 on April 16th, but that has not stopped the Danes from jump-starting celebrations in advance.
The Queen Margrethe II and Prince Consort Henrik traveled through Aarhus in an open horse coach accompanied by a parade of horses from the army’s 'Gardehusarregimentets Hesteskorte' Wednesday morning, and a music show is scheduled for the evening.
A horse parade is usually only planned for special occasions, such as royal weddings or celebrations.
The Queen and the Prince Consort ended up at the Aarhus City Hall after the parade, where they made an appearance at the balcony, followed by a reception, attended by other royals such as Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, as well as Prince Joachim and Princess Marie.

Josh Groban to sing for the Queen
In the evening, there will be a show in honour of the Queen at the concert hall Musikhuset Aarhus, co-arranged with TV2, which will be transmitting the show live.
Well-known Danish actor Nikolaj Lie Kaas will be hosting the show. Josh Goban as well as Rasmus Seeback and Anne Linnet are all set to be performing.
The other entertainers include Danish comedy group Ørkenens Sønner; royal ballet-dancers Ida Praetorius and Sebastian Haynes; and the shadow-theatre group Attraction Performance from Hungary, according to Kongehuset.dk.
Popular Queen, unhappy Prince
Queen Margrethe has held the throne since 1972. She is a popular queen in Denmark and there will be a number of celebrations for her birthday throughout Denmark. Other live TV shows will be transmitted on April 15th and 16th, according to TV2.
On her “real” birthday next Thursday, Queen Margrethe will take another horse coach ride, this time through Copenhagen.
Her husband, Prince Consort Henrik, however, is not so happy. In an interview with Dutch TV recently, he said that he will never accept nor understand why he's not seen as an equal partner to Queen Margrethe.
“I have always said that I should be a partner, but I am not considered as a partner because I’m not on the same level as my wife which is completely ununderstandable [sic],” Henrik told NOS.
Prince Consort Henrik was also the subject of one of the April 1st jokes in Denmark this year with Ekstra Bladet saying that he would be featured on the 20-kroner coin to be issued for the Queen’s 75th birthday.
