Scare after emergency landing at Barcelona
A Vueling flight had to make an emergency landing at Barcelona’s El Prat airport this morning a little after takeoff because of a "burning smell".
A plane has had to make an emergency landing at Barcelona’s El Prat airport – the airport from which the doomed Germanwings flight 4U9525 took off on Tuesday morning.
Vueling is a Spanish low-cost airliner based at El Prat airport.
The flight, from Barcelona to Munich, took off from El Prat airport at 7am only to return minutes later when the captain smelled burning, sources from the airline told Catalan daily, La Vanguardía.
The newspaper is reporting that the partner of one of the passengers said those on board had heard "strange noises, grinding and the smell of burning".
The airline sent an SMS to all passengers explaining the plane had made an emergency landing "for security reasons".
The plane was carrying 137 passengers, eight of whom have decided not to board the alternative flight offered by the company, a fact the company said was "very usual".

In a message released on Twitter, Vueling said that they had followed the security procedures and passengers were now on their way to Munich. They also reiterated that security was the airline's top priority.
El Prat was the scene of anguish on Tuesday as families of those on board the Germanwings flight 4U9525 gathered at the airport. A special room in Terminal 2 was made available for families, who were attended to by psychologists.
A flight carrying 64 of the victims' family members left El Prat airport at 10.05am on Thursday morning according to El País.
Another 14 family members opted to travel on an overnight bus from Barcelona along with 11 members of a support team made up of emergency medical and Red Cross staff. They are expected to arrive in the village some time on Thursday.
