Pillonel Olivier was skiing in Val Slingia, in South Tyrol’s Val Venosta, when the avalanche hit at around 3pm on Wednesday, the GE Local news site for Alto Adige reported.

His body was found after an hour-and-a-half’s search, the newspaper said.

Olivier had been the ski trip with his wife and two children.

Several deadly avalanches have hit Italy’s ski slopes since mid-December, causing eleven deaths.

Last weekend a 48-year-old British man was killed in an avalanche in Argentera, a resort near the French border.

A 24-year-old Dutch skier also died in an avalanche in the Dolomites and two Italians were killed in Trentino.
