Just where do Germans spend their money?

Polling shows German consumers are increasingly confident, meaning that economists expect them to pull out their wallets and spend money. But where does the average family's disposable income go?
According to the federal statistics office, Destatis, the biggest chunk of households' income went on housing, energy and home maintenance, at 34.5 percent – or €796 out of an average monthly spending of €2,310.
Over 14 percent of families' cash was spent on transport, at around €329 a month, and food, drink and tobacco were close behind at €321, or 13.9 percent of the budget.
Household applicances, hotels, and clothing and shoes each made up around five percent of spending.
