Nestled in the stunning Dolomite mountains of northern Italy, the Cavallino Bianco hotel in Ortisei wins top points for scenery.

But it is the hotel’s approach to parents and children that saw it named the best hotel for families in the world, along with other winners boasting “remarkable service, quality and value” according to TripAdvisor.

“We are exclusively for families with children; we have everything organized around families,” Nives Avanzini, marketing assistant at the hotel, told The Local.

“We have huge facilities with childcare, divided into ages, with a daily programme from 8.30am to 10.00pm,” she explained.

The ease of putting children into all-day childcare, allowing parents to relax or go off and enjoy the mountains, is undeniably appealing for adults.

Children are treated to a huge play area, complete with giant Lego, a “pirates’ lair” and a Punch and Judy show. For those who can’t bear to be away from their games console, there’s also a PlayStation zone.

Additionally there’s an indoor play area and six swimming pools, Avanzini said. Other special touches include the free use of Crocs shoes, free internet and a non-smoking policy.

The success of the Cavallino Bianco comes just 13 years after it was turned into a family-only hotel. A renovation of the pools and children’s area in 2013 has seen it clock up hundreds of positive TripAdvisor reviews.

As of Thursday the family-run hotel had been rated “excellent” 1,162 times, compared to just seven “terrible” scores.
