Ever dreamt of running Florence’s Uffizi Gallery, or how about Rome’s Borghese Gallery? For the first-time ever, Italy is searching internationally for museum directors, with the deadline for applications set for February 15th.

Italy’s Culture Ministry placed an advertisement in The Economist earlier this month seeking directors, either from Italy or abroad, for 20 museums across the country, including Turin’s Polo Reale and Venice’s Academy Gallery, as part of a plan to inject some dynamism into the country’s cultural sector.

The four-year contracts come with salaries ranging between €78,000 and €145,000 a year, on top of bonuses, depending on job level and experience.

Job requirements include at least five years' managerial experience within the private or public sector, and a culture-related specialism.

Among the duties involved are supervising the museum’s managerial, organizational and financial planning activities as well as organizing exhibitions and promoting the museum.

Applicants are required to apply in both English and Italian. The jobs are expected to start on June 1st.

"For Italy, this is a real innovation,” Culture Minister Dario Franceschini was quoted as saying in La Stampa earlier this month, adding that the move is intended to "develop" Italy’s abundance of museums.
