The Interview set for Swiss cinema release
The controversial American film The Interview, a political satire film about North Korea, is set for release in Swiss cinemas on January 28th, producer Sony Pictures has confirmed.
Sony decided to cancel the film’s initial theatrical release in the US last month after terrorist threats from a group called the Guardians of Peace, who hacked the film company’s computer systems.
The group referred to the feature film, with a scenario about American journalists instructed to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, as a “movie of terrorism”.
But after an outcry from critics, Hollywood actors and even the White House, Sony quietly made the film available for online purchase and rental before a limited release at 331 American cinemas on Christmas Day.
The film was originally supposed to be released on October 10th and has reportedly been altered to make it more palatable to North Koreans.
deadline.com reported last week that the film was scheduled for wide release in the UK and Ireland on February 16th.
But film-goers in Switzerland will get a head-start.
For those who can wait, Sony is reportedly set to release The Interview on Blue-ray Disc on February 17th.
