On Friday, a 46-year-old man from Finland suffered fatal injuries in a fall as a result of a skiing accident in the mountain resort of Ischgl near Landeck in Tyrol.

According to a report from the Austrian Press Association, the Finnish tourist was only found on Saturday, lying motionless on a disused and closed ski run, where he had remained undetected overnight.

It wasn't until his wife reported him missing that police were able to find and identify him.  Emergency services attempted resuscitation, but the man was dead on their arrival.

According to a police spokesman, the Finn had apparently died of his injuries after a fall.

Meanwhile, in a separate accident in Saalbach-Hinterglemm in Salzburg province on Monday, a 32-year-old man from Denmark died on the slopes in mysterious circumstances.

According to police four Danish tourists, who were each wearing helmets, were skiing together on the piste when they noticed that one of their number was lying on the ground in the snow.

At first the man was responsive, but he quickly became unconscious.

Emergency assistance was summoned, however they were unable to revive the man, who died on the slopes.

Police are currently investigating the incident, for which they are seeking witnesses.  Anyone who may have seen what happened are asked to contact the Saalbach-Hintergelmm police station on 059133-5182.
