Global media have been gazing on the luxury island owned by champion golfer Tiger Woods and his Swedish ex-wife Elin Nordegren, which has recently gone on sale.

The island, which is in Lake Mälaren, the third largest lake in Sweden, consists of 330 000 square metres and includes a custom-made golf course, a hunting lodge and a landing strip for private planes.

There are also stables and a historic hill fort, along with a secluded quay, perfect for docking luxury yachts.

Tiger Woods bought the property during his six year marriage to Elin Nordegren, who divorced him after it emerged in 2010 that he had had a string of affairs.

The island has been on sale since last year, but photos of the property have gone viral over the past 24 hours after a number of international newspapers reported on the real estate.

Sabine Rollinger, of Vladi Private Islands which is listing the island, told the UK's Daily Telegraph: "This island was owned by Tiger Woods, but after his divorce he doesn't need an island in Sweden any more."

"This is a unique, exclusive private island with total privacy. It includes a private harbour, untouched woods, beautiful lush parks, open fields, striking lake views and a tastefully designed main residence, a mini-mansion."

She added that water temperatures could reach up to 26C during the summertime and that the island was "within an hour" from Stockholm and accessible by both boat and car.

"This is the place to begin great fishing trips in your own private fishing waters, take a boat ride out to Mälaren's over 1,000 islands or the beautiful archipelago of Stockholm."

American CBS sports reporter Kyle Porter wrote: "It even has a Viking stronghold with 30 meters of rocks straight up in the air. I don't know what a Viking stronghold is exactly, but I'm pretty sure I want one!"

Vladi Private Islands said the island's price would be released on request.
