Nice views are all well and good but the item that Swedes prioritize above all when kicking back on holiday is the speed of their wifi connection, a new survey has shown.

A high-speed wifi connection, which is also preferably free of charge, is becoming increasingly important when Swedes choose their holiday accommodation, a new survey conducted by travel website Skyscanner has shown.

Every second Swedish traveller considers wifi to be the most important thing in their hotel room, the survey showed.

"It's a little surprising that there are so many (who prioritize wifi) and the number is increasing," said Emma Nilsson at Skyscanner.

"Previous surveys in contrast have indicated that many actually prefer to avoid being connected 24/7," Nilsson added.

The survey was sent to some 3,500 Swedes, of whom 1,000 took the time to respond. The survey also indicated that proximity to shopping and restaurants was of a lower importance.

Despite the increasing popularity of an internet connection, the winning item in the survey is a beachside location.

Getting hold of a room with a view was low down on the list of priorities however with many responding that they prefer a hotel room on one of the lower floors. Almost 15 percent preferred a room on the ground floor.

Room decor should furthermore ideally reflect the destination's culture and must not be too spartan.

"It seems to be a something of a false prejudice that Swedes would prefer a simpler style," Emma Nilsson said.
