Police were called to the idyllic village of Wattenberg in Tyrol on Saturday night when a teenager’s party got out of control after scores of uninvited guests turned up in response to a Facebook invitation.

An 18-year-old girl from the village had planned to host a private party in an old wooden house belonging to her grandparents. She said that she intended to only invite a few close friends, but after she neglected to make her event page on Facebook private 150 people turned up.

Residents in the tiny alpine village - population 700 - called the police after the noise got out of control. Seven police cars turned up and after speaking to the teenager and her father, broke up the party. It took them two hours to disperse the drunken crowd.

Police charged a dozen people with disturbing the peace and damaging property, and in one case, possession of marijuana. They may charge the 18-year-old host as she made the event public on Facebook - thus giving it her official approval. The invitation reached 450 people.

“We were totally shocked when the party escalated into a mass event,” the girl’s father told the Kronen Zeitung paper. “Complete strangers turned up, and destroyed one of the rooms on the first floor of the house - the walls have been ripped apart,” he added.
