The Norwegian Board of Health Supervision (Statens helsetilsyn) will decide whether to cancel the doctor's authorization to practice.

It is said the doctor, from Telemark, abused her position by offering sex to the patient in exchange for prescribed medicine, the newspaper Varden reported.

The patient made the claims in a complaint about the doctor's behaviour in November 2013. The case was investigated by the Norwegian Board of Health Supervision and the police, who seized the mobile phones of the doctor and her patient.

In text messages to the patient, the doctor mentioned sex several times.

In August this year, the doctor and her lawyer met the Norwegian Board of Health Supervision to discuss the case and the doctor apologized for her wrongdoing.

In a written apology, she stated: "I admit that I have made a lot of mistakes in my contact with this patient. My communication was unacceptable for a doctor-patient relationship, and I apologize sincerely.”

The doctor said to Varden that she only wanted to help the man and stressed that nothing physical ever happened. She said: "This was never my intention.”

The Norwegian board of Health Supervision will not press for the doctor to be prosecuted.
