Turkish media reported that their tour bus collided with an intercity bus at a crossing.

"One person is seriously injured," Maria Parent of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs told the TT news agency.

Images of the smash in the Turkish media show that the front of the coach carrying the Swedes has been crushed. The driver of the intercity bus has told police that the tour bus driver drove through a red light moments before the incident.

Swedish newspaper Expressen reported that many of the Swedes on the bus were on their way to the airport to go home.

Staff from the Swedish consulate in Antalya have since been to the hospital where the injured are being treated. The Swede who was seriously injured has since undergone surgery.

She is believed to be a woman in her 70s and resides in central Sweden.

The accident occurred on the D400 road between the resorts of Alanya and Antalya.

Swedish media reported that the Swedes on the bus had travelled to Turkey with an organizer that arranges study field trips.

In 2013 a Swedish teenager was killed following an accident involving a tourist coach in southern Turkey.
