Dark weekend looms for southern Sweden

Southern Sweden looks set to stay under a blanket of cloud until at least Tuesday, as the darkest November in decades continues.
Forecasters say that sunshine is not expected to break through on Saturday or Sunday, except in Värmland and western parts of northern Sweden. Alongside the darkness, Malmö and Stockholm could also experience rain over the weekend. Northern Sweden is set for fresh snowfall and forecasters at Sweden's meteorology institute, SMHI, have warned drivers to be careful on roads in the region, which could get icy. Throughout November, Växjö in southern Sweden has had just a single hour of sunshine. Stockholm has had 1.8 hours. By contrast Kiruna in northern Sweden has enjoyed 41.24 hours of sunshine, according to forecasters working for Swedish television network SVT. But meteorologists say that the sun could show its face next week. Daytime temperatures in southern Sweden are expected to remain at around five to ten degrees Celcius, which is typical for this time of year in Sweden.
