One of Austria's top TV comedies has been picked up for a pilot with the US TV network Fox, starring Daily Show alumni Rob Riggle.

The show features the mayor of a small town, played by actor and comedian Riggle, who will do almost anything to save his struggling community--including faking a miracle.

The American version — which is currently untitled — will be developed by former Office, 30 Rock, and American Dad! writer Steve Hely and "follows the quirky inhabitants of a small struggling town whose mayor (Riggle) is prepared to do anything to save his community. Seriously. Anything."

Riggle became popular from his appearances on the Daily Show, starring Jon Stewart.

The series is being sold by Austrian state broadcaster, ORF.  Richard Grasl, ORF CFO, said: “After successes like The Counterfeiters and A Day for a Miracle, this extraordinary series proves once again, that programs ‘Made in Austria’ are internationally well received.”

The show will use a single camera format, and is also executive-produced by Riggle, who has featured in films like The Hangover, 21 Jump Street and The Lorax.

This may be the first time an Austrian TV show has been remade in the USA, although two feature films were remade, including The Counterfeiters, Funny Games and Der Rauber.
