The fatal accident occurred on March 25th 2013 at around 8.15am in the village of Windich when the 34-year-old Swiss man was driving a truck along a narrow road.

He passed a group of children on the road but failed to see the boy crossing the street in front of the vehicle.

The truck crushed the child and seriously injured him.

Several hours later he died in the Zurich university hospital.

On Thursday, the man received a suspended eight-month jail sentence in addition to a fine, the ATS news agency reported.

Through an accelerated justice procedure, civil parties in the case agreed to the sentence, the agency said.

The driver recognized he was in the wrong, ATS said.
