At a government session in Hammerfest, Prime Minister Erna Solberg launched “Arktis 2030”, a set of subsidies for North Norway that will help stimulate greater economic growth in the area.

Arktis 2030 has a 2015 budget of up to 150 million kroner, and will contribute to realizing the priorities of the Norwegian government in developing the country's North.

The Prime Minister said during her presentation in Hammerfest: “Northern Norway is a region of the future. It is the centre for a lot of our national politics and will develop even more.”

The government lists five areas they wish to invest in: International cooperation; business; education; infrastructure and the environment; and security.

Solberg, who also promised increased oil and gas activities in the North, said: “The time has come to go from talking about how much resources we have up here, to actually realizing it.”

“But Norway will also be a responsible agent in the Arctic. We will not stand for ruthless exploitation,” she added.

From the national budget, the Norwegian government had already allocated 3 billion kroner to the North for next year.
