Swedish film fans are aflutter following the news that superstar actress Uma Thurman is in the capital, where she will pick up the festival's Achievement Award on Friday night.

Thurman is no stranger to Sweden. Not only is she part Swedish, she also had a lead role in the 2005 movie The Producers where she played a Swedish woman called Ulla, speaking and singing in what sounded more like a thick Swiss accent.

At a press conference in Stockholm on Friday afternoon she explained that she felt more Swedish than American when she was growing up.

On Friday evening Thurman will take part in an hour-long question and answer session with fans.

She'll then walk the red carpet for a double screening of her two Kill Bill films. From there, the star will head to the brand new Uma bar in Vasaparken, which has been decorated top to toe in an Uma Thurman theme.

She is expected to sign her name along the bar counter during her visit.

The Pulp Fiction star won the festival's newly-established award for her "ferocious" acting, which festival organizers called "a gift to audiences worldwide".

"Ever since her earliest roles, Uma Thurman has displayed an ability to portray and project the perfect and fantastical, while giving glimpses of the humanity that lies within," the festival committee explained in a statement.

The Stockholm Film Festival runs from November 5th - November 16th and will feature 201 films from 60 countries.

Marking its 25th anniversary in 2014, it got underway by revealing two ice sculptures by Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei earlier this week.
