How Berlin will celebrate this weekend
Berlin will celebrate 25 years since the fall of the Wall on Sunday with balloons, Beethoven and a new exhibition.
From Friday November 7th a this time temporary and very well-lit landmark be installed through the city. Around 8,000 illuminated balloons will run part of the former route of the Wall.
And on the night of Sunday November 9th, white balloons will be released into the sky at the Brandenburg Gate, accompanied by Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, to mark the peaceful revolution.
Parts of the former Wall route will also have guided tours, viewing platforms and special displays this weekend, including Bornholmer Straße (Sunday only), Mauerpark, Berlin Wall Memorial and Documentation Centre at Bernauer Straße, Brandenburg Gate, Potsdamer Platz, Checkpoint Charlie and the East Side Gallery..
And on Saturday from 5pm to 9pm the European Union Youth Orchestra will play at Mauerpark, the East Side Gallery and Checkpoint Charlie.
Visit Berlin is also encouraging visitors to walk along parts of the former Wall route, marked by the illuminated balloons as there will be 100 exhibits along the route called "100 Wall Stories".
The exhibits will cover the story of the construction off the Wall, escape attempts and death, and the division of the city.
Berlin's Philharmonic Orchestra will play in a special concert on Sunday in the Philharmonie concert hall.
There will also be a street festival during the day at the Brandenburg Gate.
But some exhibits will be more permanent.
On Sunday morning a new exhibition called "1961|1989: The Berlin Wall" will open at the Berlin Wall Memorial and Documentation Centre at Bernauer Straße. Find out more about the 25th anniversary events this weekend at Visit Berlin. SEE ALSO: East German retro - a slap in the face?
