Ban Ki-moon in Vienna for major conference

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived Sunday evening in Vienna, where he will attend a UN conference on developing countries on Monday.
Ban was received by Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) at Schwechat airport and escorted to a charity event against human trafficking, organized by the carpet dealer Ali Rahimi. On the way there, Ban and Kurz discussed current topics such as the Ukraine conflict, the struggle against the jihadist militia Isis and measures to combat the Ebola epidemic, according to a spokesman for the Foreign Minister. On Monday morning (10.00 clock) Ban will open the "Second United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing countries". Federal President Heinz Fischer and Foreign Minister Kurz will speak briefly at the opening. A press conference is scheduled at 12 o'clock, reported the Austrian Press Agency (APA). It is the largest UN event in Vienna for ten years. Around a thousand participants from over 90 countries are registered, including Presidents Evo Morales (Bolivia) and Giorgi Margwelaschwili (Georgia), as well as more than 40 foreign ministers. Ban will be delivering speeches to the UNIDO and the OSCE, as well as attending a performance by the Austrian winner of the Eurovision song contest, Conchita Wurst.
