Hollande's Australia visit will be a first for France

François Hollande will become the first French president to visit Australia next month, his office announced Tuesday, as he makes a two-day trip to bolster ties between the two countries.
Hollande will visit Sydney and Canberra on November 18th and 19th to "strengthen the historic links and economic relations" between France and Australia, according to a statement.
The French president will take with him a large business delegation and his trip will include talks with Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott.
"This will be the first state visit by a French president to Australia," Hollande's office said.
In 2012, France and Australia signed a Strategic Partnership agreement, meant to strengthen ties in political, defence, security, economic and development fields.
According to official Australian government figures, trade in goods and services between the countries was worth $6.9 billion (€5.4 billion) in 2012-2013.
