Danish interests threatened abroad: PET

The Danish Security and Intelligence Service has warned that Denmark’s involvement in the bombing of Isis targets in northern Iraq has increased the threat against Danish interests abroad.
According to DR, the national security service Politiets Efterretningstjeneste (PET) is warning Danish companies and consultants in a long list of countries that they should review their security procedures in light of terrorists’ focus on Denmark. Denmark was specifically named in an Isis propaganda video that featured captured British journalist John Cantlie apparently reading off of a script provided by his captors. “Everyone now is getting involved. Denmark and France have sent air power. Britain is arming the Kurds. Iran is sending troops. Contractors are being sought in Iraq. Even [Syrian president] Bashar al-Assad, until earlier this year the most hated and villianised tyrant in the Arab world, is being approached for permission to enter Syria,” Cantlie reads in the video. PET’s new estimation of the threat to Danish interests mentions Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Mali, Jordan, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia the Philippines and Turkey’s border to Syria, which is currently seeing Isis militants attempting to take over the city of Kobane. DR reports that PET already viewed the threat against Danish interests as serious in Syria, Iraq, Libya, Kenya, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Afghanistan and Yemen. International Danish targets have been hit by terrorists before. In June 2008, a car bomb exploded at the Danish Embassy in Islamabad killing four. Just last week, the Foreign Ministry’s citizen services department (Borgerservice) changed its travel recommendations to 28 Muslim countries, warning Danes to use extreme caution.
