A Vienna administrative court has ordered Austrian Internet Service Providers to block several web sites allegedly used for illicit sharing of copyrighted material, based on a request from rightsholders' representative VAP.

According to a report in Telecom Paper News, the court ordered A1, 3 Austria, Tele2 Austria and UPC Austria to block all access to Movie4K and kinox, which are popular sites for downloading copyrighted movies.

The Austrian Federation Against Piracy (VAP) filed a restraining order against the ISPs in August after the companies refused to respond to its letters requesting the blocks.

A recent decision by the European Court of Justice upheld an earlier action to block web sites that trade in copyrighted material.

At the time of writing, the Pirate Bay web site has not yet been blocked in Austria.
