Police said four vehicles were set on fire in an hour in Alten Jakobstraße and Alexandrinenstraße in Kreuzberg, Gürtelstraße in Friedrichshain and Dornbrunner Straße in Baumschulenweg.

Another four cars and a scooter were also burnt in Heinrich-Heine-Straße. Then between 5am and 5.30am on Thursday two more cars were damaged by fire in Oderstraße, Neukölln.

In total ten cars and a scooter were damaged. Investigators are not ruling out a political motive, the Berliner Zeitung reported.

On Tuesday night, police were also called to a gang of 20 to 30 masked, black-clad people attacking a building and starting fires in Kreuzberg.

Witnesses called police just before 9pm to the corner of Engledamm and Michaelkirchplatz.

The group was throwing stones and paint bombs at a building on the corner, but had fled by the time police arrived. They also set a construction barrier and a Volkswagen on fire.

Police also found a second home in Engeldamm had been damaged with stones.
