A 60-year-old man in Burgenland tried to attack two policemen with a chainsaw on Tuesday evening after they admonished him for blocking off part of a country road whilst he was sawing wood. No one was injured.

The pensioner had parked his tractor and trailer partly on the road and partly on the pavement in Güssing, police said. After receiving a complaint from a member of the public police came to find the man at around 4 pm and asked him to finish his work and move his tractor and trailer.

He told them he would. However, when they returned at 5.30 pm they found the man still busy chopping wood and the road was still blocked. They asked him again to move but the stubborn man ignored them.

The policemen said they would have to make an official report and that he would possibly face a fine.

At this point the pensioner saw red and turned on the two policemen with his chainsaw, holding it as if it was a sword, they said, and charging towards them. The two men fled and went to get reinforcements.

The 60-year-old continued his work but was arrested 15 minutes later and taken to Eisenstadt prison.
