Sweden's National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen) found that over a two-year period, an annual average of 15,500 kids were taken to hospital after accidents at Sweden's playground.

That's 42 per day, noted the Dagens Nyheter newspaper (DN).

One park inspector pointed out that Sweden's playgrounds are far from being up to scratch.

"The most common problems I've noticed are wear and tear, like worn out chains on swing sets or railings that are broken," Sven Erik Henriksson told the paper.

"If a board has rotted then it can be easy for a child to fall through."

The statistics, recorded between 2010 and 2012, showed that the accidents are more common among boys than girls, and that Injuries to the head accounted for 25 percent of the hospital visits.
