Seventeen fans were found guilty of breach of the peace after the judge said that evidence clearly showed that they had gathered in a large crowd with the intent of committing criminal acts. One man was convicted of attempting to resist arrest.

Two men with previous criminal convictions were given prison terms of 15 months, and one man 12 months. The remainder were given suspended sentences ranging from three to eight months.

Two men will have to pay fines of €2,400 and €3,600. All the men have been banned from attending football matches in Austria for the next six to 12 months.

Many Rapid Vienna fans attended the trial to show solidarity for the accused.

The prosecution said that the men were the ringleaders of fights which broke out after the friendly game against the German team, in which benches, tables, and glass bottles were thrown at police officers. At least ten people were injured and several police cars were damaged.
