Baby hippo born at Copenhagen Zoo

A 30 kilo male hippopotamus was born at the zoo on Thursday and should make its public debut within the next two weeks.
A baby hippopotamus was born at the Copenhagen Zoo on Thursday, the zoo announced on Monday. The baby hippo should be on display in roughly two weeks. “It was born Thursday evening, is doing very well and has been given a health check by the zoo’s veterinarians. It also had the remainder of its umbilical cord cut off, which was rather long, and had a chip inserted that will function as an ‘identification number’ with information on the animal,” Copenhagen Zoo said in a statement.

Its the third baby of the 27-year-old mother, but the first baby fathered by the father, a relative newcomer to the Copenhagen Zoo. Copenhagen's newest addition will have to compete in the cuteness department with a baby pygmy hippopotamus born in Sweden earlier this month.
