The movie which is has the title Turist in Sweden and has been released as Force Majeur in other countries, will be Sweden's entry in the Best Foreign Language category at the Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars.

Written and directed by Ruben Östlund, the film has previously won other global prizes including at the Cannes Film Festival.

It revolves around a Swedish family on holiday in the French Alps and how they deal with the very near disaster of an avalanche (see trailer below).

Force Majeur's selection marks the second time a film by Östlund has been given the nod in the category, which Sweden has won three times in the past, although not since Fanny and Alexander took the title in 1983.

The other two Swedish films to win the Oscar were by Ingmar Bergman: The Virgin Spring in 1960 and Through a Glass Darkly in 1961.

The ceremony will be held in Los Angeles in late February next year.
